Flames Of Durga is the brainchild of identical twin sisters guitarist Béah and bassist Cecilia Romero who was born and bred in Los Angeles.
They grew up writing songs together, craving to share their music with the world. It wasn’t until a shared near-death experience acted as their catalyst to start a band. They chose to honor “Durga”, who is a Hindu fire goddess that embodies fierce, feminine energy. Joining forces with their hard hitting drummer, Nate Million, they’ve become a strong, electrifying, fiery force. Combining the best elements of desert rock, metal, and punk, Flames Of Durga is a scorching, visceral fire of sound and style.
What is one message you would give to your fans?
Always follow your heart and don’t get distracted comparing yourself to others. There’s only one you so embrace what lights you up!
Which famous musicians do you admire?
Dave Grohl, Joan Jett, Alison Mosshart
What’s next for you?
We have our debut full length album coming out exclusively on limited edition colored vinyl later this summer! Ten songs were recorded at world renowned studio Rancho de la Luna, in Joshua Tree, CA, produced by Dave Catching (Eagles of Death Metal, Mojave Lords, Queens of the Stone Age, Earthlings?) The digital LP will come out in the months to follow the vinyl debut.
How would you describe your music?
Dirty rock n’ roll, unapologetic and feminist.
What about your music is rebellious, unconventional, or unusual?
We tend to sing about really deep issues, as opposed to the typical “love” or “break up” song. We feel compelled to write about themes such as human rights, existentialism, corruption of society and philosophical thought.
What do you enjoy most about being an artist?
Being able to have an authentic outlet of creative expression, beyond the bounds of intellect. Music can be so liberating and is beautifully powerful in how it unites people on a cosmic level.
Do you have any other plans relating to this release? A video? Online Shows?
We just finished our month long “White Owl Tour” in support of our new single “White Owl”.
If you had to describe yourself as a flavor, what would it be?
Spicy with a hint of savory.
What makes you nostalgic?
90’s music from our childhood or certain scents that can trigger memories
What do you think the greatest invention has been?
Shazam is definitely one of them!
Do you have any lucky items, objects, or traditions?
We love crystals and stones! We always bring our crystal jewelry and charms with us on stage and on tour. We love palo santo and sage. We also have a small Durga Goddess with us for our merch display.
If you were talking to a younger version of you, what advice would you give yourself?
Remember that your time on Earth is temporary, so be resilient and embrace what you love. Only give your energy to people who are deserving and respectful of it. Integrity is everything.
