Bird Concerns is a four-piece garage rock band from Los Angeles, California. The musical collective began as a collaboration between fellow CalArts students, Marcus Buser (Bass, Vocals), Travis Meador (Guitar, Vocals), Jake Sucher (Guitar, Vocals) and Cooper Wolken (Drums, Vocals). Built upon four-part harmonies, interweaving guitars and infectious rhythms, Bird Concerns are delivering a fresh approach to rock’n’roll.

Inspired by their Jazz and classical studies, the vibrancy of the Los Angeles art scene and bands such as Deerhoof, The Zombies, and The Cure, Bird Concerns have succeeded in crafting their own unique take on rock music. “We wanted to make something that is rooted in tradition. We’re more interested in asking questions than giving statements”, reveals Buser.

New single, ‘The Monster’ thematically focuses on facing internal demons as well as learning to love the parts of yourself that other people don’t understand. Engineered by Theo Karon (Mavis Staples, Angel Olsen), Bird Concerns strive to recreate their live sound within the studio recording as authentically as possible. Sonically, the track draws from 90’s grunge and new-wave music, featuring gritty guitars, tight vocal  harmonies and driving drum beats. Fueled by early musical influences of punk and garage artists, this three and a half minute surf rock confessional glides through darkness and light, searching for a way to live authentically in life. Buser expresses, “The Monster is inspired by my own struggles with depression, anxiety and misplaced guilt. It’s a song about learning to accept yourself and in turn give acceptance to others”.

Some major themes within the band’s music are mindfulness and selflessness. These can be found in ‘Oh Well’, a distorted wander through the variety of competing layers that exist in a relationship. Lyrically, the song lays out elements of raw frustration that can be felt when a lover comes across as unfair or manipulative. Touching on the struggles of navigating outside pressures and the perspectives of others, while keeping one’s own ego in check, ‘Oh Well’ is a poignant rock anthem.

Bird Concerns have been making waves by headlining high profile Los Angeles venues, as well as recently coming off of a successful west coast tour. The four-piece has also been featured on numerous tastemaker blogs and media outlets. ‘The Monster’ and ‘Oh Well’ are currently available worldwide.
