Top Norwegian pop act Donkeyboy debut their new single “It’ll Be Alright”, which premiered Friday on Perez Hilton. Their sound is a refreshing musical collision of indie rock and synthpop, the unique mix of the new and the old gives a timeless sense of anthemic pop to much of the band’s music, and this single is no exception.
The song was written and produced by brothers Cato and Kent Sundberg, co-founders of Donkeyboy, who brought in Violet Days’ Lina Hanson to help with the lyrics.
“We came up with the melody and the idea of ‘It’ll Be Alright’. We felt that the song had a really positive energy, and was crying out for a lyric with a universal message, so we asked Lina if she could help us out,” says lead vocalist Kent Sundberg.
Donkeyboy, who have over 150 million combined streams on Spotify, are currently one of the headliners on the Vinterlyd tour in Scandinavia which is presented by NRJ and P4, two of the leading pop radio stations there. The band will be playing festival dates in Europe this summer.
More about Donkeyboy
Since forming over a decade ago, Donkeyboy have dominated the charts in their native Scandinavia on the strength of their catchy, pop-driven anthems. Their sound, a combination of hook-laden melodies built over quirky lyrics and a solid framework of modern rock and future-leaning synthpop, is equal parts stylish, distinct and powerful and has won them the acclaim of global fans and the music industry alike.
For fans new to Donkeyboy, “It’ll Be Alright” is the second latest entry on the band’s ever-growing laundry list of consecutive hit singles and releases. Officially signed to Warner Music in Scandinavia, Donkeyboy first made pop history in their homeland when the band spent just one week short of a full year at #1 on the Norwegian pop charts with their first two releases: Their debut single, “Ambitions” (March 2009), remained at the top of the charts for 12 consecutive weeks before their follow-up, “Sometimes” (September 2009), replaced the track. This serendipitous series of events marked the first time ever that a Norwegian artist had occupied the top two spots on the singles chart, setting the band on a long and fruitful career from the get-go.
The band kept the momentum burning with the release of their debut album, Caught in a Life (Warner, 2009), which showed a confident, complete and robust Donkeyboy sound which evolved with their two subsequent albums, Silver Moon (Warner, 2012) and Lost (Warner, 2016), Donkeyboy have since attained seven additional hit singles across Scandinavia, including Trigger Finger, Silver Moon and Crazy Something Normal (the most played song on
Norwegian radio in 2015). Elsewhere, the official music video for “City Boy” from Silver Moon counts over 6.9 million views on YouTube to date. Over the last 10 years, Donkeyboy have evolved to become one of the most decorated and vivid pop adventurists to rise from Norway, with an inventory of impressive accolades that includes: 32 platinum awards; 3 Norwegian Grammy wins & 5 nominations; 10 consecutive Top 5 singles; four #1 singles in Norway; and eight Top 10 singles across Scandinavia. In 2011, the group won a European Border Breakers Award, recognizing their international success. They were also recognized as the #1 most played band on Norwegian Radio consecutively in 2014 and 2015 and were voted Best Live Act of 2015. Collectively, Donkeyboy boasts over 200 million combined streams in Norway alone, a sum approximately 40 times larger than the nation’s population of 5 million.
