A serial killer known as the Confessor is kidnapping and torturing gay men, and Reno Police Department Evidence Technician Leif Carson is determined to catch him.
His personal life isn’t any less stressful. Despite being a virgin and having zero experience with men, he can’t stop thinking about his best friend’s ex, Rafe Castillo. Rafe is suffering from PTSD, but that doesn’t stop Leif from wanting to be with him.
Complete opposites, they’re an amazing fit once they do get together—until Rafe’s PTSD gets in the way and he walks away from the relationship before it has a chance to truly blossom. Even though he has intense feelings for the man, Leif has no choice but to let him go.
When the Confessor kidnaps Rafe, Leif does everything possible to locate him before he’s murdered. Rafe’s near-death experience changes him profoundly, but the danger isn’t over yet. Leif and Rafe will have to face pure evil together if they’re going to last.

Review by Roroblu’s Mum
Good intro to this author. Tale is connected to the FLESH tales. Book 1 of the Reno PD series.
This book can be read as a standalone, but is connected to the FLESH series of tales, as previous characters pop up in here, with some pretty central to the plot. I’ve not read the former but had no trouble getting into this tale.
I liked the writing, and especially the lead we got to know most, the storyline and the HEA, though parts were rushed. TBH, it didn’t seem that the leads spent enough time together for them to fall in love, but the tale, and they worked. I also liked that the other lead was bad but not beyond redemption and that he had a bit of an epiphany with what happened to him, which seemingly changed him for the better, despite physical and mental trauma.
Despite the feeling that the author was racing to the finish, the tale was good enough and the pace realistic enough that I was prepared to go with the flow and believe in the guys’ connection, the demons one was fighting and the other’s Doogie Howser intelligence.
It ends in the start of a HEA that I kind of wanted expanded, and that ended up being the most romantic part of the tale. The various characters from the connected tales appear throughout this, and they were interesting enough for me to want to go and track down their tales, as well as hope that there won’t be a long wait for the second book in this series, as there’s a very decent guy left single at the end of this one.

Ethan Stone lives in the soggy state of Oregon, and, yes, he does have webbed feet. He used to have a day job where he wore a sexy uniform, now he can wear whatever he wants to work as he attempts to see if this writing thing can support his Mt. Dew addiction.
