China’s biggest pop star KUN releases his new single, “Hard to Get” , following an exclusive premiere on Billboard.
The new track blurs the lines between electro-pop, trip-hop, and modern trap music. Its sharp, thumping beats contrast with soft, warbly vocals to create an electronic expression of genuine emotion rarely found in mainstream music.
Billboard says, ‘”Hard to Get” is a step away from the dance music the artist has pursued on past songs, like last year’s “Wait Wait Wait”, in favor of something a bit darker and more mature.”
With “Hard to Get”, KUN continues to demonstrate the multidimensional layers of his artistry. He writes his own songs, singing and rapping fluently in both Mandarin and English.
Having made a name for himself in Asia as a member of the C-Pop boy band Nine Percent and winning the competition reality show Idol Producer in 2018, the multi-talented KUN began releasing music as a solo artist. His early hits include “Pull Up”, “You Can Be My Girlfriend”, and most recently, “Wait, Wait, Wait”, the electro-pop masterpiece with a visually stunning accompanying video. So far, KUN has amassed over 5 Million streams on Spotify alone, and now he’s on a quest to bring C-Pop to the States.
Not surprisingly, KUN completely sold out his first US/UK tour, some dates within minutes. Fan girls lined up around the block in NYC, LA, and San Francisco to catch the 20-year-old sensation in person. KUN sang, danced, and DJ’ed live onstage with his signature visual aesthetic — he has all the makings of a star.
The success of the “ONE” tour signifies the official arrival of C-Pop in the West. Following the massive success of K-Pop bands like BTS and Blackpink, C-Pop is the next big trend in music, and KUN is the face of it.
