The youngest contestant of NBC’s hit TV show The Voice, Olivia Kay, joins fellow Oklahoman and OKC hip hop luminary J French for the official music video of “Different Ain’t Different,” released (4/30/2018).
A standout single from French’s sophomore album OGB (Only Gets Better), the song’s visual treatment arrives on the heels of his regional ad campaign for Fenton Nissan West.
‘”Different ain’t Different’ is about artists not being able to be artists without someone either completely biting them or duplicating their style, which depreciates the value of true artistry. This song is made from pure observation and you can tell by the lyrics.” – J French
Released in the fourth quarter of 2017 via EMPIRE, and arriving just shy of a year of French’s debut album Jaguar Jesus, OGB is chock-full of self-produced, motivational music, featuring two guest emcees (Kurt Dog and Zilla) and three guest producers (Emory aka Lucky 7, Mike Payton, and Lambo from Hawaii).

More About J French
J French is an accomplished rapper, multi-instrumentalist and producer from Oklahoma City. His first rhyme was written to Devin The Dude‘s “Don’t Wait” at age 12. French has successfully garnered a strong regional following that spans Texas, Oklahoma, and LA. French’s father, Brother Num, is a two-time Grammy Award-winning musician who has contributed to works by Common (background vocals and xylophone on “Go”), Naughty By Nature, Consequence, Bootsy Collins (w/ Burning Spear), and more. While Num provided French with his formal percussion training early on, French eventually went on to master the cornet, piano, xylophone, violin, and cello by middle school. French has since worked with Grammy Award-winning producer Jah Born (of Erykah Badu‘s official band RC & The Gritz), and more. Now as a voting member of the Grammys, French has aspirations of one day collecting a Grammy award of his own. In addition to putting the finishing touches on his next solo album, French has been hard at work on a project with producer Demitrius “Meech” Shipp Sr. for the better part of 2017.
