Singer-songwriter singer Micah Wilshire’s new single “Woman” is getting some good heat.  The single is off his upcoming EP titled Manifestoand features notable players such as Grammy Award-winning bassist John Patitucci (who appears on “Woman” and 4 other songs), Willie Weeks (bassist for Eric Clapton, John Mayer, Etta James, etc.), and Nir Z on drums (John Mayer, Genesis, Chris Cornell). The jazz-inspired single is a moving ballad celebrating and appreciating women.

A Nashville-based musician, Wilshire has done session work for the likes of Darius Rucker, Dierks Bentley, and Jake Owen. His writing credits include the Billboard #1 single “Drunk On Your Love” by Brett Eldredge, with song features in movie trailers for MAX, Keeping Up With The Jones’, and Bad Moms.

Divine caught up with Micah to ask him some questions about his work, his career and his future plans.

Firstly, the silly ones😊

What’s your favourite Milkshake flavour?

Oreo!!

If you could breed two animals together to defy the laws of nature what new animal would you create?

Classic question. I would breed a cobra and a hawk. I would then release them upon my enemies and vanquish all my foes.

What was the last thing you dressed up as for fancy dress?

I dressed up as a rock star named Micah Wilshire and got smashed.

Do you have a favourite mug and if so, what does it say?

“Like a boss”

Is there anything you wish would come back into fashion?

Yes – Battle axes.

MICAH

And now to the more serious ones

You play a variety of instruments, one of which is the guitar. What are the other ones and does being multi-instrumentalist help you in your career?

I play bass, drums, a little bit of keys and program. They ALL help me be a better producer. I can tell other players what I want more clearly.

Recently, you took on the position of VP of TV/Film for Young Guns Publishing, focusing on songwriting and production. Tell us a bit more about this exciting step.

Very exciting. It was a very natural evolution to my writing for tv film. I can help direct others to the right vibe.

Your release, ’Woman’, is the tale of the woman you love. The lyrics are heartfelt and inspirational and clearly come from the heart. In music in general, how much of oneself should one put into music and is there a downside to this that you can see?

I think people should put however much of real life in their songs as they feel comfortable with. This was new for me. I usually write from an outside character.

You’ve said the future of your songwriting and music will be jazz with pop over-tones so any generation can enjoy it. How do you feel about the fact music has evolved over the years to offer a variety of sounds like punk, cyber goth, trance music and will probably continue to change as new generations come on board?

I LOVE THAT MUSIC EVOLVES. That’s what it’s alll about. Helps keep people from getting stagnate and bored. I love all genres and listen to all genres … except polka.

Tell us a little about what’s on the cards for you in 2018. What can we expect to see and hear?

I’m definitely adding more raw blues influence to what I just finished…. even a little indie vibe.

And finally, what advice would you have for other hopefuls hoping to break it through into the Nashville singing and songwriting scene?

I would say work harder than you think you need to, stay who you are through the struggle. And mostly, never stop learning
