Legal High is the exciting and energetic new single from Scottish pop duo The Eves. Set for release on Friday 17 September, it comes hot on the heels of the pair’s outstanding last release, Brand New Day.
This latest single is another infectious, high-energy pop offering from the Edinburgh pair, whose intuitive musicality, unforgettable vocals and positive vibe are winning them new fans at every turn.
The self-penned Legal High looks set to build on the recent success of Brand New Day, which spent an impressive five weeks on the BBC Radio 2 playlist, garnering support from the likes of Ken Bruce, Zoe Ball and Steve Wright.
The track reached number 6 and number 15 in the iTunes pop charts and iTunes main download chart respectively, charted in the Amazon ‘New Hot Releases’ UK Chart, and made an impressive debut in the top 75 of the UK Official Charts Company download and single charts. A placing on Spotify’s New Pop UK playlist was the icing on the cake.
Marissa Keltie and Caroline Gilmour are musicians, songwriters, co-producers and performers, making them a multifaceted and formidable duo who have understandably been marked as ones to watch since joining forces three years ago.
The pair, who were previously recognised as solo performers in their own right, have gone on to become one of the UK’s most promising emerging female pop acts in recent years, and Legal Highis another exciting step forward in their ever-expanding musical careers.
Written earlier this year after Caroline and Marissa experienced a burst of creativity, the new single is all about that feeling of intoxication when you are falling in love with someone.
The Eves worked with producer Lewis Gardner, who has worked with the likes of Nick Jonas and Ellie Goulding, to hone the catchy, upbeat song. Citing influence from pop royalty such as Dua Lipa and Miley Cyrus, Legal High is a pop anthem that sits comfortably alongside some of the top mainstream songs of the 21st century.
Caroline said: “Some of us will have experienced that special feeling at one point in our lives when you meet someone who has turned your life upside down – your senses and emotions are heightened, and your every thought is about that special someone making you feel like you are flying and high on life!
“Legal High is all about capturing the joy and fear of that addictive feeling. It’s such an exciting time and with gigs also back on the menu, we can’t wait to see what else 2021 has in store.”
Marissa added: “Love is a powerful, scary and exciting feeling and we wanted this song to convey that energy – that full-on, in-your-face buzz and anticipation. It’s just brilliant to be back performing live and we can’t wait to see what else 2021 holds. It was so invigorating to see the incredibly warm reception for Brand New Day, so we are so excited to release another track and build on that success, giving old and new fans alike another new pop fix.”
The Eves have recently been involved in co-writing sessions with songwriter Jim Duguid and producer Lewis Gardiner. Jim is an award-winning songwriter and musician, whose song writing credits include the number 1 hit New Shoes by Paolo Nutini and Too Close by Alex Clare, which was featured in a global advertising campaign for Microsoft. The pair are also scheduled to write with songwriter and producer Steve Chrisanthou, who has worked with artists such as Gabrielle, Will Young and Paloma Faith.
With recent performances at Tiree Music Festival’s online offering TMF Transmitting Live and an upcoming slot at Capers in Cannich Festival in September, The Eves are excited to continue their journey in 2021, bringing their music to a growing fan base.
Previous stand-out live shows include TRNSMT, Country to Country, a digital set hosted by Levi’s to their 26 million strong social media audiences, opening for The Shires at Glasgow’s Old Fruitmarket and playing King Tut’s.
Legal High is available to buy, stream and download on all major platforms now.
As a solo artist, Caroline achieved a UK No.1 with her self-released EP ‘Electric Waterfalls’ in 2016. It made the top spot in the UK Official Charts Company Vinyl Singles Chart on Record Store Day that year. It also reached No.2 in the Physical Singles Chart.
As well as being a songwriter and performer, Marissa is an established voiceover artist and commercial model. Her voiceover clients include Universal Music Group and The Scottish Government. Working for the world-renowned Model Team agency, she has appeared in many campaigns for clients including British Airways, Heineken and NatWest.
In the charity sector, Caroline is Patron of the 6VT Edinburgh City Youth Cafe – a charity specialising in providing support to young people from all walks of life. Marissa also assists the charity with running music workshops.
The duo has also recently become actively involved in setting up the dog rescue organisation ‘Pico’s Pack’ – raising awareness and leading fundraising to care for abandoned and abused dogs in Serbia.
