However, they depend entirely on us, which means that we need to do our best to ensure that they live a healthy and happy life. Although many dogs go for regular vet visits, it’s inevitable that at some point they will experience some health issues. As a result, it will be up to you to help your furry friend feel better. This is why, today we have decided to discuss a few common dog health issues that your pet may go through and what you can do in each situation.

Parasites

Parasites are creatures, that can be found everywhere in your dog’s world. For example, they might be external like fleas or internal like heartworms. Other common dog parasites include ticks, mites, and lice. Thankfully, there are many great ways to prevent your dog from developing a parasite problem. For instance, it can be a good idea to educate yourself about the most common canine parasites and look for suitable products that you can use, such as flea and worming treatments. Also, it can be beneficial to get dog insurance before any signs of problems appear.

Constipation

Constipation in dogs is another problem that you shouldn’t ignore, as it can quickly lead to other more serious issues. If you are wondering ‘what can I give my dog for constipation’, you may want to take a look at this advice from Native Pet. You will learn more about some of the best home remedies that you can give your pet for constipation. Native Pet provides quality supplements, which will give your pet the nutrition they need. Their supplements also contain whole-food ingredients, backed by science. Therefore, make sure you read more about the things that you can do to help your dog, if they are experiencing constipation.

Diarrhea

Diarrhea is one of the most common reasons why dog owners take their pets to the vet. This is because there are many different things that can cause diarrhea in dogs, from eating something that they shouldn’t have eaten to experiencing a food allergy. While most mild cases should be resolved within a day, others might require veterinary attention. Also, keep in mind that ongoing diarrhea may lead to dehydration, so you shouldn’t wait to speak to a vet. If your dog has had diarrhea for less than 24 hours, it’s advisable to give them plenty of water and avoid any energic activities during this time.

Obesity

Obesity is one of the most serious dog health issues that you may need to deal with. Moreover, there are some dog breeds prone to obesity. Nevertheless, it’s also one of the most preventable problems. Being obese can put your pet at risk for other health conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and cancer. It can reduce the quality and length of your canine friend’s life, so it’s vital to take action as soon as possible. You should ensure that your dog gets plenty of exercise and eats a balanced diet. If you’re unsure about your dog’s weight, it can be helpful to consult a vet.

Ear Infection

Ear infections are another problem that shouldn’t be left untreated, even if it doesn’t seem serious. They can cause your pet to scratch their ears and shake their heads. In some cases, ear infections may also be painful or very itchy. This can result in serious damage to your dog’s health, so it’s important to act quickly. If symptoms persist for more than a day or two, you should take your pet to the vet to find out what might have caused an ear infection and what treatments you should follow.

Arthritis

If your pet suffers from inflammation of a joint or multiple joints, this might be a sign of arthritis. There are a few symptoms that you may notice, even if your dog seems fine at first. For example, your pet might be limping before and after walks, but in some cases when more than one joint is affected, they might not have an obvious limp. Also, they may look a bit stiff and tired in the morning, which means that they might not want to get up or walk around. Therefore, you will need to feed your dog a suitable arthritis diet and ensure they keep exercising to maintain muscle strength.

Urinary Issues

Urinary issues can be frustrating to deal with for many dog owners. Although you may believe that this can be due to lack of training, sometimes it may mean that your dog is suffering from a urinary tract infection. Some symptoms they might experience include frequent urination, bloody urine, or lethargy. It’s even more likely that they have a urinary tract infection, if they have underlying medical conditions. Typically, a vet will prescribe an antibiotic that will provide your dog with immediate relief. They may also recommend a diet change moving forward.
