When TJ Klune was eight, he picked up a pen and paper and began to write his first story (which turned out to be his own sweeping epic version of the video game Super Metroid—he didn’t think the game ended very well and wanted to offer his own take on it. He never heard back from the video game company, much to his chagrin). Now, over two decades later, the cast of characters in his head have only gotten louder, wondering why he has to go to work as a claims examiner for an insurance company during the day when he could just stay home and write.
Since being published, TJ has won the Lambda Literary Award for Best Gay Romance, fought off three lions that threatened to attack him and his village, and was chosen by Amazon as having written one of the best GLBT books of 2011.
Confession time....I am a huge TJ Klune fan girl! This is an author who can have me howling with laughter on one page, then choking on emotion the next, and this book was no different. Mr Klune has this amazing ability to write inanely ridiculous storylines without making his characters ridiculous. Despite their laugh out loud, daft antics and their hilarious banter and bizarre, rambling conversations, the relationships, both friendships and familial, in this story are deep, heartwarming, emotional and a joy to read. Each character has their own quirks and foibles, those personality traits that make them the most appealing, infuriating, endearing, maddening, insert 'ing' word here, friend you have ever had. I adore them all! I fell in love with all these people in previous books in the series, and through the Bear, Otter and the Kid series, and this beautiful story has just heaped more love on top. Catching up with these characters again has been fabulous and I cannot recommend this author's work highly enough! Wonderful writing, as always, fast paced, hilarious, heartstring tugging, romance filled......just superb!
