Torin’s anxiety has made it difficult for him to navigate romantic relationships, so instead of trying, he keeps himself occupied with his work. But just because he doesn’t chase relationships doesn’t mean he doesn’t want something, even if he has to get it with a dash of taboo.

At Pillar, the only all-male brothel in the city, Torin makes an appointment with a charming sex worker who goes by the name “Davies.” It becomes hard for Torin to keep his emotions out of the intimacy, and his feelings become more complicated when a designer he works with starts to let on that his interest is more than platonic.

Torin didn’t plan to see Davies forever, but he wasn’t done with him. There was still so much territory to explore.

Torin groaned again and rubbed his face. If he stewed in his moral dilemma any longer, he’d be late to see Russell, and that would be both suspicious and might cut into their time if Russell had anything he needed to do before he ended his day. Torin made the decision to put off worrying to the best of his ability and enjoy dinner. He dropped his hands in his lap, then brought one up to his steering wheel and used the other to disengage the emergency brake. God, something was wrong with him.

Torin hadn’t managed to primp the sin off himself, but he doubted Russell had holy vision, anyway. He showed up to dinner a few minutes early and was escorted to Russell’s table. Either Russell had been very early or had gotten the table just before Torin arrived.

“Good to see you,” Russell said while Torin took a seat across from him. “How’s your day been?”

Counting Davies, his day had been amazing.

“Pretty good,” Torin said. Their waitress—Tiff—came by and took their drink orders, and once she left, Torin asked Russell, “How’s yours been?”

“A little stressful,” Russell admitted. “Our boss wasn’t too specific about how he wanted the subjects of the ad photographed, so he’s pissed at our photographer and me and him have to do about a third of our work over.” He shrugged and smiled at Torin. “But I can worry about that tomorrow. There’s nothing I can do about that tonight, so I’m ready to enjoy the time I get to spend with you.”

Oh, Russell. That smooth-talker.

Torin felt his face get warm and hooked a finger in his collar to loosen it. “I, ah—I’m glad I get to help you de-stress,” he said with a smile. “Hope you can help me with that, too.”

Russell lifted an eyebrow and gave his date a crooked smile. Torin fidgeted and avoided eye contact with him until their drinks arrived.

Once Torin’s akwardness about his unintentional innuendo had passed, the date went smoothly. Torin was hardly a person to be loud or excitable, but Russell brought that out in him. While Torin talked and gestured, he occasionally caught a soft, admiring expression on Russell’s face and stuttered.

Once their meal was finished and they’d chatted long enough to decide they’d overstayed their welcome, the two paid and exited together. Russell escorted Torin to his car.

“I had fun,” Russell said, and leaned against the side of Torin’s car alongside him.

“Yeah,” Torin said. “Do you, uh…” He looked down at his hands and fiddled with his fingers. He had yet to kiss Russell tonight, and he was about to…proposition him.

Russell said for him what he couldn’t. “Do you mind if we head back to your place tonight?”
