As wonderful as the results of a butt augmentation can be, the recovery process can be quite taxing on your body. Aside from the swelling and bruising that you’ll have after your surgery, there is the issue of being able to sleep. While you want to be as comfortable as possible, you also have to avoid damaging the newly transferred fat cells. Here are some tips to help you sleep through the night after your butt augmentation procedure.

Choosing the Right Position

Although you might be used to sleeping on your back, this is an absolute no-no when you are recovering from a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL). Unless you had fat transferred to your hips, you might be able to sleep on your sides. However, be sure to have one leg slightly bent, so your weight is on the front of your hip, and not on the actual side. The ideal position would be on your stomach while keeping your arms up by your head, so they don’t become swollen or numb.

Accessories That Help With Comfort

While there are lots of devices out there that can help you sleep better during your recovery, you’ll have to consider what works best for you. If you are going to lie on your stomach, you could use a face pillow or a massage kit, so you’re able to lie face down. The massage kit is a pretty simple device that gives you face support without having an entire massage table. Simply slide the attachment side underneath your mattress, and you can lie face down as comfortably as possible.

If sleeping on your side at a 45-degree angle works best for you, try using a foam wedge to support your back, or place a pillow between your thighs. If you’d like back and hip support, a pregnancy pillow can work great as well.

Wear Proper Garments

A major part of your recovery process consists of you spending a lot of time in a compression garment. These are made out of material that is meant to provide maximum support as you heal. However, choosing a size that is too small for you will make it even more difficult to sleep comfortably at night. Because you’ll have to wear your garment all day, except when showering, you must make sure you get it sized correctly. This way, you are not totally uncomfortable when it is time for you to rest. Wearing a properly fitted garment as instructed will help with the swelling, which in turn will improve your level of comfort.

Drink Plenty of Fluids

Right after your surgery, you can expect to experience lots of swelling, and more than likely some discomfort. The more hydrated you are, the better your body can retain electrolytes and minerals needed for recovery. If you don’t particularly care for water, you can try drinking sports drinks as they tend to be filled with lots of electrolytes as well.

Get Moving

It should go without saying that you should not attempt to perform any strenuous tasks right after you’ve had surgery. However, after a few days, you should try walking around a little bit as this helps to get the blood flowing. Good blood circulation is essential for healing, while exercise helps to loosen your joints and can improve your mood.

Switch It Up

Another way to enhance your comfort, so you can sleep better is to alternate your positions. If you start off by sleeping face down, after a couple of days you can try switching to your side. Make sure you are alternating sides and are lying at a 45-degree angle. If your mattress is too hard, this can make it uncomfortable to rest in this position, especially after having had a BBL. You can try adding a topper to your mattress that is thick enough to support your weight.

When You’ve Had Multiple Procedures

Because many women tend to undergo additional procedures along with a BBL it can be quite difficult to get a restful night’s sleep. When you get a breast augmentation along with a BBL, you won’t be able to lie on your stomach. If you have a recliner, sleeping in it for the first few weeks can help to reduce swelling so you are able to rest better. Otherwise, here are some things you can do for comfort:

  • Invest in quality sheets that are breathable, so you’re comfortable whether the temperatures are warm or cool.
  • Add pillows to your bed, so the top half of your body is propped up in a way that mimics an actual recliner.
  • If you are sleeping on your side, use a neck pillow so your spine and neck are aligned.

Improve Your Environment

You would be surprised just how much your environment can affect your quality of sleep in general. Not only should your bed be comfortable, but the overall ambiance of your room can affect your ability to relax and sleep well. By adding soothing elements such as soft music, an oil diffuser, et cetera, you would be surprised at how comfortable you can sleep. Just having a clean space that is calming and smells good can help you relax, be more comfortable and assist with your recovery.

Having any form of surgery can make it difficult to sleep comfortably as you are in a lot of pain at first. Aside from whatever pain medicine you are prescribed, you want to also be in an environment that is conducive to your comfort as well. While it is good to use pillows and other props to improve your level of comfort, eating and drinking properly is important as well. By giving your body what it needs from the inside out, you can have the best recovery process possible.
