In a matter of days, Dex has been kidnapped, tortured, killed, revived, become half Therian, offered the chance to become a spy, and accepted a proposal to marry his jaguar Therian boyfriend, Sloane Brodie. It’s been a lot to take in, and although Dex is still trying to wrap his head around everything that’s happened, he knows he has to move forward.
After the events of Smoke & Mirrors, Dex and Sloane find themselves in one of the most frightening situations of all: revealing the truth to their Destructive Delta family. When the dust settles, nothing will ever be the same, and it’s up to Dex to prove that in the face of change, the one thing that will always remain the same is family.
Thick and Thin wraps up most of the lingering questions from book seven, Smoke and Mirrors. A quick read at just 100 pages, it still contains lots of emotional pieces that will tug at your heart. Being so short, it is difficult to describe without giving away spoilers, but I’ll try. Dex’s changes take a noticeable shift that has the team aware that something isn’t quite right. Cael has quite the temper when roused, and we get a full display of how he deals with anger. That being said, this still is much lighter a read than the full length books.
While I was happy to have the answers to my questions, I feel that this novella could have just as easily served as part of the epilogue into what is being called the ninth book. It doesn’t read as book eight. It reads more as book 7.5. However, I still enjoyed the story and the wrap up in preparation to Hudson and Seb’s book. I am rating this at 3.5 stars, rounding up to four on sites that do not accept halves.
