Title: The Guy With The Suitcase
Series: Once Upon a Guy, Book One
Author: Chris Ethan
Genre: Gay Romance, Contemporary, New Adult
Pierce is homeless.
Young and strong-willed Pierce has been living in the streets of New York City for six months, since his parents kicked him out of their perfect, Christian, suburban house. Pierce is gay. And he is suffering the consequences for being true to himself.
Rafe is homeless.
He is also sick. Impressionable, but far from innocent, Rafe ran away from home almost a year ago. His sickness is slowly killing him. But Rafe is not a hopeless case. He has learned to get by. Nights of paid passion turn to sheltering warmth from the imminent New York winter.
And then there’s a suitcase. Pierce’s suitcase, which holds secrets from everyone including its owner.
When their worlds collide, their lives intertwine and when the world seems bent on bringing the two souls to their knees, fate has other plans for them.
Caution: Contains adult language, New York City streets, tough life choices, sexual tension, stubborn brutes and swoon-worthy romance.
What, in your opinion, are the most important elements of good writing?
I think having great, strong characters is the most important element of good writing. Having characters that readers can relate to and believe are real can make a mediocre story a perfect one. Then, comes plot and conflict. You need both to make for an interesting read. Nothing can kill a good book then nothing happening.
What comes first, the plot or characters?
The characters, for sure. Every time I see an interesting person be it on TV, another book or in real life, I always try and find a story for them and their one true love (or more if they’re poly). I don’t like conventional romances. I want to write characters no one wants to write about. Those are my homies. So, yeah, definitely characters for me.
Tell us something about your newest release that is NOT in the blurb.
The Guy With The Suitcase was born as part of a series of modern fairy tale retellings because people kept confusing my LGBT fairy tale retellings for erotica. So, to appease the demand, I came up with the Once Upon A Guy book series and meant for them to have more of an adult nature. The Guy With The Suitcase is a retelling of the Little Girl with The Matchsticks by Hans Christian Andersen. The more I developed it, however, and the rest of the series, the more I came apart from the original idea and, eventually, I only kept the Happy-Ever-After and dropped the retelling part. The series now tells love stories set in New York City.
Are you working on anything at the present you would like to tell us about?
At the moment, I’m working on the second book in Once Upon A Guy series, Pretty Little Red, an asexual, gay, trans romance. I’m also working on Men of Spring, an erotic novella, part of a shifter series called Men of Seasons. I’ve also got other projects in various stages of progress.
What are you reading now?
At the moment, I’m reading Vanessa North’s Blueberry Boys, which was recently featured in NY Times Romance (an amazing feat for our genre) and Ana J. Phoenix’s For Never And Always and an incredible story with a great concept.
What is the most surprising thing you discovered while writing your book(s)?
I discovered that I loved writing swoon-worthy scenes. And angst. I’ve got a bit of a kink for making my characters suffer. Just a little bit, though. There’s nothing better than a happy ever after after you’ve put your characters through a miniature whirlwind.

About the Author
Chris Ethan is a book whore. He enjoys selling his feelings for money and other pleasures and is blatantly unashamed to do so for as long as he breathes. Chris Ethan is also a persona for Rhys Christopher Ethan, author of fantasy and sci-fi. He uses Chris Ethan to share stories of adult queer romance with those who need it. Before you delve into his books however, be warned. He likes putting his characters through shitstorms and hates anything conventional. But then there’s that darned happy-ever-after. Also, he likes swearing. Deal with it!
