The Ballad of Shia LaBeouf and His Societal Rebellion

Shia LaBeouf was once one of the biggest childhood stars out there. He went from his time at Disney and making films such as Holes and Bobby to be the leading star and face of the Transformers franchise for three huge films from 2007 to 2011.

During that time period, he also was able to portray the son of Indiana Jones: Henry “Mutt Williams” Jones III and the husband of Gordon Gekko’s daughter: Jacob Moore. Lots of people such as Steven Spielberg, Oliver Stone, and Michael Bay believed in LaBeouf to be one of the next great stars. They saw in him someone that could be another Tom Hanks or Harrison Ford. He was that good at acting in their opinions. However, LaBeouf has not had an easy time since those simple days when he was a childhood star.

On Saturday, Shia LaBeouf was arrested in Savannah, Georgia. He was charged with obstruction of justice, public drunkenness, and disorderly conduct, according to authorities. The 31-year-old actor was later let go from the Chatham County Detention Center once he posted a $7,000 bond. The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department said LaBeouf approached someone and a police officer asking if he could have a cigarette. Once he was not given the cigarette, the actor started to act out and speak vulgar language and profanities.

LaBeouf was told he needed to leave but said he would not and showed animosity toward the policeman. “When the officer attempted to place LaBeouf under arrest, LaBeouf ran to a nearby hotel,” the authorities said in a statement. “LaBeouf was arrested in the hotel lobby, where his disorderly behavior continued.” Apparently, LaBeouf was outside The Wild Wings Cafe and even went running toward the Andaz Hotel once the officer started going after him. He was arrested in the presence of an 8-year-old-child and a 10-year-old child who heard and saw LaBeouf speak vulgarities and attempt to fight the officer.

LaBeouf had randomly started shouting at the officer about how the officer worked for him because LaBeouf was a taxpayer. The situation seemed very random and strange. Yet, it’s not the first time LaBeouf has needed help from the best alcohol treatment centers. His troubles in February 2005 began when he was charged with assault for threatening his neighbor by smashing his car into theirs. One person said the actor lost his cool but it was said LaBeouf verbally threatened him and eventually went up to their door with a kitchen knife, eventually fighting and a person calling the police. LaBeouf was arrested. In November 2007, he was asked to leave a Walgreens in Chicago during the filming of Eagle Eye.

He refused and was detained for misdemeanor criminal trespassing. Eventually, the charges were dropped against LaBeouf. July 2008 continued LaBeouf’s legal controversies. He was involved in a car crash in Los Angeles, California. A vehicle ran a red light and hit his Ford F-150. The stench of alcohol was on his person, officers thought. He would not take a breathalyzer test. Michael Bay stated any alcohol LaBeouf had drunk before was gone by the period of time in the accident. LaBeouf had to go through many hand surgeries after the accident. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said he was not at fault.

LaBeouf has had a number of incidents since then. On June 26, 2014, he was charged with disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing at the Studio 54 Theater in New York. He was reportedly yelling and being very loud. He refused to leave an Alan Cumming performance of Cabaret and was detained at the Midtown North police station after spitting on police and using slurs and swearing at the officers.

While he started going to the best alcohol treatment centers for a 12-step program, he eventually went back into his old behavior in Texas. It was October 2015, and LaBeouf was detained for misdemeanor assault and harassment for getting in a fight at an anti-Donald Trump rally. LaBeouf seems to have a lot of work ahead of him.

LaBeouf has seemed to struggle with a great deal of emotional trauma. His need to consume alcohol reflects his inability to ignore the physical attachment he has to alcohol. It represents an alcohol addiction the actor struggles with this today. The longer he ignores it and does not receive help from the best alcohol treatment centers, the longer he may continue doing things he might regret one day. LaBeouf’s story is one of tragedy. Eventually, one day maybe he can rise to the occasion like Robert Downey Jr. did. Maybe…
