Tales From Foster High bundle by John Goode
The first three books, centred around Kyle and Brad, are a shocking but sadly realistic look at the trials of being a gay teen in a small town. Despite being a middle-aged, straight woman, the treatment these boys received nauseated me, infuriated me, choked me up, generally left me with the overwhelming urge to grab the bigots by the throat and shake some sense into them!
I do love a story that really stirs my emotions!!
The fourth book in this bundle is a little different in that the MCs are a decade or so older, but the struggles are somewhat the same. Having been raised in small town Texas, both Matt and Tyler hid their sexuality throughout their youth, Tyler doing so, well into adulthood and Matt moving away in order to attempt to be himself. It makes me so sad that anyone should ever feel the need to hide in this way, but as this story shows, sometimes it just takes the right person to provide the courage to step out and be true to yourself.
I enjoyed this emotional rollercoaster so much, and will definitely be searching out more from this author.
