About the Author
Charlie Cochet is an author by day and artist by night. Always quick to succumb to the whispers of her wayward muse, no star is out of reach when following her passion. From adventurous agents and sexy shifters, to society gentlemen and hardboiled detectives, there’s bound to be plenty of mischief for her heroes to find themselves in, and plenty of romance, too!

Currently residing in Central Florida, Charlie is at the beck and call of a rascally Doxiepoo bent on world domination. When she isn’t writing, she can usually be found reading, drawing, or watching movies. She runs on coffee, thrives on music, and loves to hear from readers.

Life for Dexter J. Daley has never been easy, but he’s always found a way to pick himself back up with a smile on his face. Taken from his home, and the arms of his boyfriend and THIRDS partner, Sloane Brodie, Dex finds himself in a situation as mysterious and lethal as the Therian interrogating him. Dex learns what he’s secretly believed all along: his parents’ death wasn’t an accident.
Discovering the whole truth about John and Gina Daley’s homicide sets off a series of events that will change Dex and Sloane’s lives forever. As buried secrets rise to the surface and new truths are revealed, Dex and Sloane’s love for each other is put to the test, with more than their relationship on the line. If traversing the waters of murder and secret government agencies wasn’t enough, something inexplicable has been happening to Dex—and nothing will ever be the same.

Revelations Leading to More Questions
Let’s start here – if you’ve not read the previous novels, this one will not make a whole lot of sense.  This is book seven of a series with massive amounts of information that you need to already know to truly enjoy it.  Start with Hell & High Water and work your way forward.  You shan’t be disappointed!
That being said, WOW, what a book!  Book six (Catch a Tiger by the Tail) ended with a Dex cliffhanger, and Ms. Cochet didn’t make us wait to learn what was up.  Smoke & Mirrors started off with a bang and just kept right on going!
There is a multitude of information presented in this book that sheds light on past situations, allowing them to make much more sense, so naturally, you’ll want to go back and start the entire series over again now that you have these revelations!
The plot and multitude of subplots are solidly written.  Ms. Cochet’s cast of characters never walk a straight path anywhere, and this book is no different.  I love how there is so much going on and yet the reader is still able to become so immersed as to feel, hear, smell and see what are, in actuality, simply words on a page.  The pacing is fast where it needs to be, yet tantalizingly slow in other areas, leaving the reader yearning for more.  The characters are as dynamic as always, and with each subsequent novel we see how interwoven the group is as they continue to draw outlying characters further into the mainstream.  Love, hate, mystery, intrigue, adventure, and a shocking new development are just a sampling of what you will find in this incredible novel.  If I could grant more than five stars, I absolutely would.  This book is pivotal to the series, and I am on tenterhooks waiting to see where things go next.  Huzzah, Ms. Cochet!
