Hi, Nic Starr here. Thanks for having me visit. It’s great to be here at Divine Magazine as we approach Christmas Day!

Christmas Day is all about family and friends. But not all my friends are in Australia so I thought it’d also be a good day to share a bit of something Aussie, something specific to how I’ll be spending my Christmas Day.

The Giving

We sit around the Christmas Tree and the kids take turns in choosing a present and handing it to the recipient. We all watch as that person opens there gift. It’s quite civilized and the kids are really part of the giving process as opposed to it being a complete free for all. We then Skype the family members who can’t be there on the day, to wish them merry Christamas.

The Food

We used to have a ‘traditional’ Christmas lunch – ham, turkey, roast veggies, and all the trimmings. Followed by a pudding and mince pies. Over the years, we’ve changed it up a bit to reflect our lifestyles and the heat of summer. We still have a glazed ham and a roast turkey, and we all love roast potatoes, but we add delicious salads. Desserts have also moved away from the traditional, heavier puddings. Instead, I’m making a cherry semifreddo, and a pavlova topped with slow-roasted, peaches, pistachios and honey. You can’t go past a good pav! J

The Drink

For me it’s all about the bubbles. Lots of lovely Australian sparkling wine and a bottle of sparkling Shiraz – a style that’s unique to Australia and perfect with Christmas lunch on a hot day.

The Sport

Aussies love our sport and Christmas Day is no exception. It’s backyard cricket or soccer, alternated with taking a quick dip in the pool. All the men/boys will be hanging out for the start of the Boxing Day Cricket Test Match.

The Sleep

Because it’s the middle of summer and it’s hot, the food and drink consumed at Christmas lunch, always have a soporific effect. While the kids muck around in the pool, most of us adults will have a nana-nap, before we get up and do it all again – eating leftovers and drinking more.

The Music

I have two teenage daughters, and all the nieces and nephews are similarly aged. So Christmas Day will be a mix of music. My mum will put on Christmas carols, then the kids will change the music when they think she won’t notice. She’ll pick up on it early in the day, but once she’s had a glass or two of champagne she’ll stop noticing. J

So there you have it. My Christmas. I hope you all have a wonderful day with your family and friends, wherever you are in the world.

And to get you in the Christmas spirit, how about check out some great m/m holiday romances? There’s a list on Goodreads. It’s by no means an absolute list but makes a great starting point.

Have a great holiday!

Nic xx

And for those of you interested, here are the details of my latest release – it’s a Christmas story set in Australia.

The Proof is in the Pudding by Nic Starr

The Proof is in the Pudding  – The Blurb

Steve Hayes is away with a group of friends who are spending the Christmas break together. He’s determined to put his two-timing ex-boyfriend in the past, and enjoy his week away. Steve is happily surprised to find that Corey Oh, the guy he’s been admiring from afar, has been invited along too. But Steve knows there’s no way someone as wonderful as Corey, who could have any man he wanted, would be interested in him.

However, thanks to a misadventure with a Christmas pudding, Steve will find that dreams can come true.

  • Thanks Nic, I love the winter solstice/Christmas vibe, but an Aussie Christmas is home. Cold ham, Jarlsberg cheese, chanpers in the rock pools of Litchfield Park (20 mins. away), early before the crowds decend, unless we want some eye candy and look out for the army boys getting into mischief.
