Rejected. Heartbroken. Devastated.

Zack Davis wanted to serve only one man, Andrew Nikeman. He was denied because Andrew thought he was too young and because their brothers were together. So Zack crushed his submissive tendencies and focused on being the perfect Dom, giving every sub he played with something he couldn’t have.

After years of denying his submissive side, Entwined’s charity auction “Are you Dom Enough to be a sub?” gives Zack an excuse to get a little of what he’s always craved.

Andrew doesn’t know when his infatuation turned into more, but it kills him to see Zack with a constant parade of submissives. He’d refused to jeopardize his brother’s relationship or become Zack’s regret; however, Zack isn’t a kid anymore, and his brother’s relationship is unbreakable. Now Zack’s popularity and success as a Dom might ruin Andrew’s dreams of collaring him, but he can’t wait any longer to confess his feelings or he risks losing the man he loves forever.

Powerful and Poignant
Overall

4.5
What a powerful story!  Zack is a middle child – used to being invisible, and generally preferring that to ever being noticed.  At age eighteen, while working for his elder brother’s band, he is presented with his walking wet dream, Andrew Nikeman.  Unfortunately, Andrew turns out to be the brother of Zack’s older brother’s boyfriend, and he doesn’t think that it’s appropriate for two sets of brothers to date.  Zack is left pining for Andrew and the submission that calls to his heart.  When he becomes a master instead and a couple of years go by, Andrew realizes that he may have blown his chance with the beautiful Zack.

This is a story of heartbreak, of personal growth, of healing, of love, and of the beauty of power exchange.  Zack is, by turns, endearing, annoying, and absolutely adorable.  Drew is frustratingly arrogant, incapable of following his own desires, yet perfectly flawed in the eyes of the twenty-one year old who fell hard at eighteen and never looked back.  I admired his determination and willingness to stand by his convictions.

The plot is solid and contains references to the Dark Angels series, which I have not read, and for which it became glaringly obvious that I was missing some things.  It is this aspect only that my rating is not a solid five, and I’m only deducting half a star for it.

The pacing is on point, and oh! – the almighty cast of peripheral characters!  Many kudos to Ms. Allora for having that huge a cast and granting each and every one of them a solid and separate personality.  I never got lost as to who was who despite the sheer volume of players, so many kudos on that score.  The character development was in fits and starts, just as it is in real life, which made it that much more endearing.

The writing style is unique and refreshing.  I particularly enjoyed the three word thoughts that defined Zack’s mindset, finding that really emphasizing just precisely where he was emotionally at any given moment.   In the end, I absolutely loved this book.  With the size of the cast (and my personal crush on Orion), I’m certainly hoping that this is the beginning of an entirely new series.  I’ll be keeping my eyes on the lookout!  If you like BDSM, give this a try.  You won’t be disappointed!
