Hey y’all! I’m Julia Talbot, and I’m here to chat today about Night of the Living Manny, my new paranormal category romance from Dreamspinner Press!
Manny is a mix of the manny (or male nanny) trope and an homage to the zombie movie, especially Shaun of the Dead.
I started reading many books a lot of years ago when my friend Sean Michael wrote the first Mannies Incorporated book. I loved how lighthearted it was, and how sweet, and I thought, aw, a gay romance with kids!
I have to admit, I didn’t feel equal to writing a romance with kids because, well, I didn’t have any. Now, you can’t get to my forty-something age without caring for kids. I’ve been a Girl Scout leader, an auntie, a babysitter, a godmother and now a great-auntie. Still, I always felt a little weird. Now I’m a step-mom, though that kid has been an adult for a bit, and somehow, it feels more like I have a right to write kids.
Weird how our minds work, right?
I also love that as mannies, the guys we write in MM romance represent gay parenting. I’m married to a woman, and I know the struggles gay and lesbian couples go through to have, and keep, their kids.
Finally, I love MY manny book because Liam, the not many character is truly bi-sexual. I like to represent the B in LGBT whenever I can, and Liam didn’t just inherit his kids from a relative. He made them, ad he defends them with all the fierceness of a father. Not that Brenden doesn’t, as well, because he falls in love with not just Liam, but the kids too.
Oh, and did I mention there’s a giant Newfoundland?
I hope y;all will give Night of the Living Manny a chance!
Something besides love is growing…
Manny Brenden Torrance is good at his job. He’s dealt with all sorts of children and parents, but he’s never met anyone as intriguing as Liam Whitehouse. Liam is a scientist with three kids, whose job is keeping him away from home more and more. That’s where Brenden steps in to help.
Liam has secrets, though. He’s working on a project for a pharmaceutical lab that could change disease management. Or destroy it. While he and Brenden start a romance they both want to continue, things at Liam’s job come to a head, and suddenly the whole family of Dad, manny, three kids, and a big drooly dog is on the run from the one thing that might keep Brenden and Liam apart. And infect the world.
