About the Author
E E Montgomery wants the world to be a better place, with equality and acceptance for all. Her philosophy is: We can’t change the world but we can change our small part of it and, in that way, influence the whole. Writing stories that show people finding their own ‘better place’ is part of E E Montgomery’s own small contribution. Thankfully, there’s never a shortage of inspiration for stories that show people growing in their acceptance and love of themselves and others. A dedicated people-watcher, E E finds stories everywhere. In a cafe, a cemetery, a book on space exploration or on the news, there’ll be a story of personal growth, love, and unconditional acceptance there somewhere. When we meet Jonathan, he's just been released from the hospital after being stabbed in the chest by his abusive ex-boyfriend Anthony Porter. After ten years under Anthony's domination and degradation, Jon struggles to with self-esteem issues and lacks direction, unused to being allowed to decide anything for himself. Enter Ben Urquart, the kind, cute removal man that Jon's cousin Liam has hired to move Jonathan's stuff from the house he has shared with his attempted murderer for a decade into a tiny fourth floor one bedroom apartment. There’s definitely attraction, but Ben has to battle Jon’s reluctance to get involved with anyone else so soon after getting out of such a bad long-term relationship. Meanwhile, Jon attempts to put his life back together, put all the negativity thrown at him by Anthony behind him, and figure out what he wants to do with his life.
When Anthony is released on bail and from the hospital, he demands that Jonathan return to him, using scare tactics which escalate, with Ben getting caught in the tempest of the ongoing break-up…will Anthony manage to reclaim what’s his or will Ben and Jon find a way to keep the past where it belongs and create a new future for themselves?
A couple of quirky neighbours, an aunt and uncle and cousin who mean well help Jon, but slowly drive him crazy, and also make for an amusing read, but I struggled in the beginning to get into the characters as I hadn’t read the previous book and the start of the story seems to be the aftermath of what happens in book 3 of the series! Things get dangerous when the psychopathic ex gets another man involved in his campaign to get Jonathan back…yikes!
If you’ve read and enjoyed the other books in the series, then you’ll likely enjoy this one too...
