Getting to know Kendra

If you were a member of the Spice Girls, what would your spice handle be?

Bunny Spice!

What’s your favourite board game?

I think blackjack (the card game) and the game of life.

Do you have any superstitions?

Not necessarily superstitions, however, I am an intuitive psychic. I am able to sense, see, and hear energy.  It translates super well for me because I have always been someone who looks beyond the veil for my acting character work and in my music. It gives my songwriting a transcendent feel.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

My songs are very much folk rock ‘n roll. At times, my sound leans very bluesy, as I tap into my deep love of life. Other times, I lean pop. This is when I am feeling my most centered and upbeat. For my country style, this is normally when I am working with my producer based in Nashville, TN. Overall, my sound is always founded in rock ‘n roll. I want people to bounce in the audience and let go.

Do you enjoy recording and production?

I enjoy it so much! In fact, when I finished recording my most recent 15 track project in the studio, I thought to myself, time to go write some more songs, so I can record again. I love the magic of catching a music moment on tape.

What are your three favorite albums of all time?

At this moment, I want to say “Merriweather Post Pavilion” by Animal Collective, “Look at What You Did to Me” by Z-Ro, and “Riot!” by Paramore.

How do you deal with writer’s block?

A great way to get out of writer’s block is to not pressure yourself to write anything, but instead, go soak up life.  Look at the way everything works out perfectly just as it would in a song, and write from that inspired place.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

I’d say my go to girls right now are Gwen Stefani, Hayley Williams, and Doja Cat. For guys, I’d love to partner with the genius that is Drake, Bun B, Slim Thug, Z-Ro, Keller Williams, and Melvin Seals.

Where was your new album recorded?

My new album “of Consideration” was recorded at the famous Hyde Street Studios (formerly known as Wally Heider Studios) in San Francisco. CA. There is an epic history to that place. I mean Herbie Hancock has recorded there… Neil Young has recorded there. The Grateful Dead has recorded there. Oh, and Tupac! These spectacular influences and the studio’s history definitely spoke to me throughout my recording process. The first song I tracked to start that week’s session is called “wildflower”. It’s a very wordy almost freestyle spittin’ song, and I got it on the first take. It’s awesome because you can hear it in the song, how smooth that take is.

Do you have any other plans relating to this release? A video? Shows?

Always! This month, I am releasing a new single titled “So Hollywood”, then a music video on May 21, and the full album on May 28. I will then be performing in Modesto, CA on 6/12 and at the Federal NoHo on 6/18.
