A choir boy gone rogue, Fox Revett is a Toronto singer-songwriter and producer. Fox has a background in classical voice and composition, but chases the highs of bubble gum basslines, syrupy sweet melodies, and brutally honest storytelling. In an economy of song where singers never really take the fall or the blame, Fox looks inwards to the parts that feel villainous, yet vulnerable. “Someone New” finds the artist falling out of love and expecting their partner to change, soon realizing they were just projecting out of insecurity
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
P O P. Pure pop. I can syphon my melodies into other genres and styles, but I have a sweet tooth and there is NOTHING like pop music’s sugar rush. Yum!
What is your creative process like?
A lot of pianos playing, voice memos of melodies, poems in my journals, and a few too many cups of coffee. I think that songs have this amazing way of living inside you in different bits and pieces, and it takes patience to fish them out in whole. At that point, I start working on beats, and taking it home!
What sets your music apart? What is unique, or at least uncommon?
I love to subvert lyrical tropes into new Queer-focused interpretations. But really, my voice is what sets me apart. I’ve been singing my whole life, and I naturally can sing very high for a guy.
If we were to look at the artists you are listening to, who would be on your playlist?
I live between opposing musical forces at all times. I grew up modulating between the Spice Girls and James Taylor. Somehow, I’ve found a way to live inside influences that at times seem at odds with each other. Recently I have been listening to lots of Charli XCX, Magdalena Bay, and Agnes.
What are your ambitions as a songwriter and musician from here?
I want to write and produce HITS for other artists and put out hits for myself. Hopefully working on it around the world!
Do you sing in the shower? What songs?
I am the number one advocate for shower singing! Catch me singing Broadway classics and Whitney Houston every morning! All tied together with a hot cup of coffee in the shower hehehehehe!
What would be a good theme song for your life?
“Spice Up Your Life” by the Spice Girls, because SPICE IT UP, BABY!
If you were a member of the Spice Girls, what would your spice handle be?
I would be replacing Baby Spice. I’d be Baby Spice Jr. You know what? I’m Junior Spice.
Are you a valuable asset on a Pub Quiz team?
I’m definitely an asset because I am FULL of trivia knowledge, but I get bored and irritable VERY fast.
If you were captain of a ship, what would you call it?
SS This Ship is Going Down.
