Getting to know Gabrielle
Do you sing in the shower? What songs?
Absolutely! I’m currently jamming to Jake Scott’s discography.
What was the last TV series you watched on TV?
I’m currently making my way through all of the DC shows. I’m watching The Flash right now!
Would you rather be the one in a movie who gets the hero/heroine or the baddie with all the good lines?
I would so much rather be the character with all the great one liners and impeccable comedic timing!
If you could learn any language fluently what would it be?
What’s your favourite board game?
My friends and I have game nights when we can, and the game 7 Wonders is a staple. We love it!
If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?
Which famous musicians do you admire?
Artists I have always looked up to are Carrie Underwood, Kelsea Ballerini, Taylor Swift.
Songwriters I really love are, Shane McAnally and Nicolle Galyon.
What is the best advice you’ve been given?
You’ll get a lot of Nos, but it only takes one Yes to change your life.
What about your music is rebellious, unconventional, or unusual?
I love having the production of my songs be very guitar and drum driven! All of my songs are also written from a raw and honest place. Every detail matters!
Have you always been interested in music? Was there a particular song/performance that made you say “Woah! I want to do that!”?
I’ve always loved to sing. I went to Carrie Underwood’s Blown Away tour and that is the concert that made me want to be an artist. Alicia Key’s song, “If I Ain’t Got You” is the song that made me really want to write great songs.
Gabrielle Metz Melts Our Hearts With New Single ‘Hey Cupid’
“Hey Cupid” is such a fun GNO anthem. Gabrielle respectfully calls out Cupid with a very catchy melody. Lyrically, you can hear the value Gabrielle places on love and what it’s like to wait in the wings for a turn. The song sets the mood for an anti-Valentine’s Day — perfect for a car full of holiday boycotters driving around as they scream the lyrics “I’ve been rolling solo for 19 years.” While her writing style and voice is reminiscent of a young Kacey Musgraves, Gabrielle captures a perfect pop sound with her instrumentation. The guitar solo and punchy kick drum at the end of the track really amps up the sound, creating a heartbeat for that overarching theme of waiting on love.
A bit more pop-influenced than some of her more recent singles (including “Christmas With You,” “Thin Ice” and “Hear My Heart”), with “Hey Cupid,” Metz has fine-tuned her sound and put herself back in the spotlight for the new year.
