How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
The internet has completely changed the music business and how we as individuals consume music. We now have genres that are less traditional in their own respective space and more genre-fluid. This is because all genres of music are accessible on all ends of the spectrum regardless of how obscure or mainstream. A kid might love hip-hop music but also really love folk music. If that child grows up to be a musician, I’d bet money they blend the two at some point.
How do you deal with writer’s block?
I don’t deal with it. I simply accept that I am uninspired and live my life until inspiration hits again. That’s not an answer every musician or writer will feel good about admitting but I want my music to echo my life. If I am forcing it, it will come out unauthentic and the audience will feel it. I don’t want that feeling for my music.
Where was your current project recorded?
My entire project “Thank Myself” was recorded in between Los Angeles, California, and Warsaw, Poland.
Are you planning any videos for your music?
Yes! We recently released a music video for our song “Brakes” which is pushing up to 300,000 views on YouTube. We recorded it in Los Angeles while finishing the album. We also are planning to film one more music video while I am in Warsaw, Poland in the coming months. Check out the video for “Brakes” below.
Do you plan your music releases, or do you just finish a song and release it?
I always plan my releases. 99% of the time any new release of mine is at least 6 months old and is part of an overarching plan with multiple songs attached. I believe that making music is the easy part of being in the music industry and that marketing it and getting active lean-in listeners is the most difficult. This is always why my rollouts are always mapped and well thought out.
Do you sing in the shower? What songs?
Always. “Another Star” by Earthquake Lights and “Acapulco” by The Sometimes Island.
Which are cooler? Dinosaurs or Dragons?
Dragons for sure.
Do you shout out the answers on the TV whilst watching quiz shows?
I always do while watching Jeopardy. I love that show.
If you were captain of a ship, what would you call it?
The SS Tony Soprano.
If you were talking to a younger version of yourself, what advice would you give yourself?
Continue to follow your gut and never take no for an answer.
His latest single “Brakes” in collaboration with notable Polish jazz musician and global producer Kuba Więcek sees the unlikely pairing joining forces to create a hybrid between jazz and hypnotic hip-hop. Blending two worlds blissfully together, “Brakes” showcases transit-inspired melodies, energetic vocal energy and electronic euphony. Initiating their recording ventures virtually, they finally took to the studio in Warsaw to record their latest release. They explain, “It was really magical how quickly we worked together and clicked – we were really inspired by each other and it showed.”
Raised on West Coast artists like Snoop Dogg, 2pac, E-40 and Nate Dogg, Corleone’s latest single “Brakes” epitomizes that ‘on the go’ feeling that never seems to ease up, exploring the idea that you’re running without brakes or the ability to stop. Corleone explains, “The place and time definitely influenced the writing and attitude of my flow and performance. “Running with no brakes on” as I say in the song was exactly how I had been feeling moving from city to city.” Igniting inspiration to live a life of your own accord, “Brakes” is just the first chapter of Corleone’s and Więceks’ upcoming EP Thank Myself, exploring unparalleled self-gratitude to one’s own accomplishments, remaining strong and succeeding despite life’s obstacles.
Sky-rocketing to a charted position in the Apple iTunes Hip Hop Charts ahead of artists like Drake, Kanye and Eminem, Capo Corleone continues to garner huge success. He also wrote the walk-out song for European boxing champion Nina Meinke, bringing Corleone’s choruses to television screens around the globe. Paired with Więcek’s successful collaborations with Warner Music Poland, and critical acclaim from the likes of Downbeat, they’re shaping the sound of the future.
