Bloggers join #mygaypride to feature LGBT travel and visibility across Europe and around the world
#mygaypride is a summer campaign that brings together LGBTA people to celebrate gay pride throughout Europe and across the globe. The global campaign was created by David and Auston of Two Bad Tourists, two gay bloggers who left their lives in the US to travel the world. Inspired by the diversity of gay pride celebrations they’ve seen during their travels, they want others to share their pride using the hashtag and be part of the experience.
A team of 17 gay and straight-allied bloggers plus 100 ambassadors will be attending gay pride events around the world to promote the campaign and share their pride through their digital storytelling in both gay-friendly cities and places still fighting for LGBT rights. The team will be visit 8 prides in Europe including Riga, Barcelona, Berlin, Cologne, Ibiza, Stockholm, Copenhagen and Benidorm. Ambassadors from around the world will also represent more than 50 prides in 20 different countries.
The project kicks off on June 19th in Riga, the capital of Latvia, the host of EuroPride and the first former-Soviet country to ever host the event. Latvia is not known as a gay destination so it’s important for the team to support places still fighting for LGBT acceptance.
“We want people to share what pride means to them. Whether it’s sharing photos during a gay pride festival or posting a message about why you are proud to be out, we want to build a global community across social media. Pride events are important public statements for equality and LGBT visibility. We believe that coming out is one of the most important things you can do to improve LGBT acceptance and travel is a great way to accomplish that. And with marriage equality gaining momentum around the world there’s no better time than now to visit a gay pride event in a new destination.” – David Brown, Co-found of TwoBadTourists
