About the Author
Rhys Ford is an award-winning author with several long-running LGBT+ mystery, thriller, paranormal, and urban fantasy series and was a 2016 LAMBDA finalist with her novel, Murder and Mayhem. She is published by Dreamspinner Press and DSP Publications.

She’s also quite skeptical about bios without a dash of something personal and really, who doesn’t mention their cats, dog and cars in a bio? She shares the house with Yoshi, a grumpy tuxedo cat and Tam, a diabetic black pygmy panther, as well as a ginger cairn terrorist named Gus. Rhys is also enslaved to the upkeep a 1979 Pontiac Firebird and enjoys murdering make-believe people.

A Murder and Mayhem Short

It’s all fun and games until someone leaves a dead body on the floor.

Life for comic book store owner Alex Martin usually runs to the mundane. Sure, he has a regular influx of geeks and freaks, but for the most part, it’s a familiar weird. That all changes when he opens up Planet X Comics one morning and finds a corpse in the middle of his shop.

When Detective James Castillo is called in to investigate, Alex is torn between wanting to climb the man like a tree and giving him a wide berth. Luckily for Alex, the handsome detective is just as interested in him—as a suspect in the murder.

Second Edition

Previously published in Grand Adventures by Dreamspinner Press, March 2014.

Engaging, fun read that had me smiling

Cops and Comix is a short story by Rhys Ford that first appeared in The Grand Adventures anthology. It is linked to the fabulous Murder and Mayhem series in that one of the MC’s, Alex Martin, is Rook Steven’s cousin. Alex was a highly likeable secondary character in those books and having read this short story after the others in the series I was thrilled to see Alex getting his very own HEA.

Alex Martin is the owner of comic book store Planet X Comics. He is a shy geek who is quite unaware of his sex appeal and can’t imagine garnering the attention of the seriously hot muscular cop who strolls into his life after Alex finds a dead body in his shop. Detective James Castillo is completely unaware he has a geek fetish until a call to attend a possible murder scene throws Alex in his path. Solving the case is the only way he can free himself to pursue Alex and he intends to do that as fast as humanly possible.

There is a skill to writing good short stories that Rhys Ford has clearly mastered. She draws the reader in from page one and has you quickly turning the pages to see which direction the plot-line will take. There is mystery, quite a bit of humour and the MC’s are instantly likeable. Cops and Comix was an engaging, fun read that had me smiling, chuckling and willing Alex and James on to their highly satisfying HEA.
