Christmas is my favorite time of the year. People become so much more loving and thoughtful, it seems, than the rest of the year.
Denise has two boys and her tradition for them was always going and picking out their own ornament for the Christmas tree. As they got older she still made them do this and she is trying now to get, Daniel, her oldest, to do this with his son, Damon.
The family is so important to both of us at Christmas time. I always had all of my family on Christmas eve to exchange gifts and have some food together. This left them free to enjoy their own families on Christmas morning. Of course, grandma would show up when they were little. This really made my day.
When Denise was little she told me they always found the gifts I hid and knew what they were getting. As a single mom of three, I’m glad I didn’t know that at the time.
Christmas will always be special to me because its’ Jesus birthday and, after all, he is the reason for the season.
I will always love Christmas. The cookies and the great food. I have a sweet tooth and so does Denise. I’m not sure if she has a favorite cookie, but her candy will always be Potato Candy. Her grandmother used to make it for her all the time. Mine and hers are Cello Chocolate Covered Cherries. I have to have them at Christmas time.
I don’t have a special recipe for anything, I like it all. I found out over the years if I didn’t have candied sweet potatoes, my children were really disappointed.
When I think of Christmas I think of family more than the food, but all of it, the lights, the food, the love is all special
Merry Christmas to all.
Donna & Denise.
