Almost each and every day, we are tasked with having to provide for ourselves. We have to buy food and drink in order to sustain ourselves every day. This is not necessarily something that is optional. Some people may find themselves becoming accustomed to a certain brand over time. For example, if people love orange juice, they might build up a connection to Tropicana brand orange juice. They could believe this is the best orange juice ever and that nothing else is better.

The reality is, though, that many types of orange juice are the same whatever brand labels they carry or wherever someone purchases them. That means that your grocery store’s generic brand of orange juice might be made the same exact way as Tropicana’s is. Tropicana just might have more of your trust because you have a history with the brand.

However, time after time, you might find that generic store brand products are just as good as any other ones. Drugs produced by generic store labels are subject to the same regulations as brand-name drugs from drug manufacturers, for example. This is a fact that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has highlighted. Realizing this truth and buying generic may help you save a ton of money in the long run.

Yet, you will want to make sure you do not end up abusing any drugs. The National Institute on Drug Abuse says around 24.6 million US citizens, 12 years or older, abused drugs within the past month. The number reflects 9.4 percent of the population and shows an 8.3 percent upward trend from 2002. The Institute believes this is partly due to the rise in marijuana use across the country. You might not want to end up at rehabs that take Aetna insurance. Making sure you do not abuse what you purchase will save you from lots of difficulties in the long run.

According to the Private Label Manufacturers Association (PLMA), buying generic can help consumers save around 30.1 percent on their bill each visit to the grocery store. This represents a total savings of $39.49 per visit. What is notable is that you could spend $131.17 each week when purchasing national brands. However, if you buy generic store brand goods, you may be only spending $91.68 on your total bill. This could save you a lot of money over time since you would be spending less money on goods you feel might be better because of their name brands, but in are in reality very similar. As long as you make sure you do not end up at rehabs that take Aetna insurance, your life could greatly benefit from saving money like this.

An example can include saving as much as 62 percent for white sandwich bread or 36 percent less on body lotion. This could lead to lower overall grocery bills and substantial savings. A Consumer Reports magazine study in 2012 illustrated how a family can save around $1500 a year by only spending $100 a week. With this amount of savings, you can see why more and more people are purchasing generic store brand products versus the national brands. How many more? The PLMA found that generic store brands amounted to $11 billion in supermarket sales from 2008-12. If you do the same, you also may save a lot of money in the long run.
